Ramen Labo is a craft ramen pop-up that has found its home inside Donburi House every weekend. Driven by an obsession with broth — long-simmered, layered, and deeply satisfying — Ramen Labo brings a rotating menu of classic and experimental ramen to Adelaide's CBD.
Donburi House opened because no one else in Adelaide was doing it. Donburi — Japan's classic rice bowl — is comfort food at its most honest: slow-braised meats, pristine rice, centuries of technique. Despite Adelaide's thriving food scene, the city had nothing that truly specialised in it. That gap was the invitation.
Lulu He brings eight years of South Australian hospitality experience to every bowl. The cooking is traditional Japanese, filtered through the skillset of a modern chef — with an uncompromising focus on ingredient quality. Dietary needs are never an afterthought: vegan and gluten free options run throughout the menu.
After the kitchen closes, the room shifts. Donburi House becomes a full-service bar built around rare and hard-to-find Japanese spirits — sake, gin, and whisky labels sourced from small provinces that rarely reach Australian shores. Alongside them: Asahi Black and Super Dry on tap, SA wines, and Japanese-inspired cocktails.
Tucked into the quieter end of Adelaide's CBD, we're worth finding.
